Frequently asked questions.

New environments and routines can be a big emotional adjustment. Our standard gradual entry runs five days, starting with a short morning visit and building up to a full day, so your child can get comfortable with teachers, friends, and the routine before you're away for the whole day. The schedule can be adjusted based on your child's progress.

Completed registration documents, photos of your child and family, a small comfort item, an extra set of clothing, indoor shoes, bedding for nap time, sunscreen and a sun hat, snacks and lunch, and diapering supplies if needed. See our full checklist on the Programs page.

Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, for both classrooms.

Please call us at 778-345-7601 by 9:00 AM if your child will be arriving late or not attending, and let us know the reason if it's due to illness so we can keep our environment healthy for everyone.

A late fee is charged per minute after closing, payable by e-transfer. If no authorized person arrives within 30 minutes of closing, we're required to contact the Ministry of Children's Services per our Late Policy — so please keep your emergency contacts current.

Only people listed as a Parent/Guardian or an authorized pick-up person on your registration form. Anyone teachers haven't met before must show photo ID. If someone not on your list needs to pick up your child, we need written notice from you in advance.

We're closed for Family Day, Good Friday, Easter, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, and a two-week Winter Holiday. See the full list on our Contact page.

We'll call you (or your emergency contact) right away and ask that your child be picked up if symptoms mean they can't safely take part in activities. Following BCCDC guidelines, children generally need to stay home 24 hours after a fever, cold, cough, sore throat, or pink eye clears, or 48 hours after vomiting or diarrhea stops.

We cannot administer over-the-counter medication. For prescribed medication, we need a completed Administration of Medicine form and the original bottle with a pharmacy label showing your child's name, dosage, and frequency.

Yes — we're an allergy- and scent-aware daycare. Peanut and tree nut products (including "may contain traces of" items) aren't permitted, and we ask families to avoid strong perfumes or scented products. Life-threatening allergies require a medical care plan and required medication, like an EpiPen, before attending.

With your written permission, yes. Please provide a labelled bottle of lotion sunscreen (spray isn't permitted) — we apply it before outdoor play and reapply as needed throughout the day.

Yes. Please let us know about any allergies, sensitivities, or cultural/medical dietary needs so we can work with your family to accommodate them safely. Food is never used as a reward or punishment, and children are never pressured to eat.

Tuition depends on your child's age, program, and the days you need, and rates are reviewed periodically — so we prefer to give you a current figure directly rather than post one that may be out of date. Monthly fees are due on the first of the month by e-transfer. Because your child's space is held specifically for them, fees are payable regardless of absence, illness, or vacation. We'll go through the full payment schedule with you before you enrol.

Yes — there's a one-time registration fee due with your form, and a security deposit that's applied to your child's final month of care. We'll confirm both amounts when we talk.

Yes. The BC Affordable Child Care Benefit can significantly reduce what families pay, and many are surprised they qualify. Check your eligibility on the provincial website, and if you need documentation from us for your application just email brightsteps2024@gmail.com. We're happy to help you work out your likely out-of-pocket cost.

We require a minimum of 45 days' written notice to withdraw or change your child's schedule. Our manager can confirm the exact notice-by date for your planned last day.
